What a session looks like

You arrive, we have a quick word about how you've been since last time — what's ached, what you've been doing, whether you slept — and I set the springs from there.

Then we work. Reformer Pilates uses a sprung carriage, so the machine supports you where you need it and makes you work where you don't. It means we can load a movement properly without loading your joints, and the same exercise can be made easier or harder for you in a few seconds.

Because it's just the two of us, I watch every repetition. Most of what people get out of these sessions comes from small corrections — a rib position, where the weight sits in your foot, when you breathe — and those are the things that get missed in a room of twelve.

We finish with something to take away, whether that's one thing to think about at your desk or a couple of movements for home.

Common questions

Do I need to have done Pilates before?

No. Plenty of people come to me having never seen a reformer. That's what the introductory session is for — we go at the pace you need and I explain as we go.

How long is a session?

Fifty-five minutes, one to one.

How often should I come?

Once a week suits most people. Some come twice, some fortnightly. We'll talk about what's realistic for you rather than selling you a schedule.

What should I wear?

Something you can move in that isn't too baggy, so I can see how you're moving. Leggings or shorts and a fitted top are ideal.

Where is the studio?

At my home in Harrogate. I'll send you the address and parking details once your session is booked.
